1969 Chevrolet Caprice Photos
Memories of My Daddy’s Last Car
My Daddy started LEGALLY driving when he was 9 years old! He had a lifetime love affair with automobiles. But he truly doted over this last car, his 1969 Chevrolet Caprice.
His last car has been SOLD, but I decided to leave all the photos online. Looking at this photo gallery of his babied Caprice is almost like going to the cemetery for me. I feel a real closeness to my parents, remembering all the great trips and times we had in this car and many of its predecessors.
Daddy always traded cars when they needed tires over the years, until this last car. He developed macular degeneration right after he retired, and he could no longer drive. So he would back this car out of the garage, run it for a while, and then tuck it back in under protection. I always drove it to the grocery store and doctor’s appointments for them.
I get a warm chuckle when I see the photo of the poorly repaired damage on the back trunk lid. The gas cap was behind the tag, so Daddy would lean his hand on the trunk to fill it up. Over time that turned into a bare spot, which he attempted to spray paint over.
You can read all about this car, as well as the stories behind many of the other cars he owned over the years, dating all the way back to the early 1900’s, on my Yesterday’s Memories blog.
